A little common sense will tell you not to park your car on the sidewalk as indicated at the end-point of the MRHS-THS purple route, but I wanted to show you how to get into the pool. There is PLENTY of parking, but if crowded you may have to walk a little bit. If you get lost, follow any little kid wearing a swim cap into the building.

Pope John girls second at state

Pope John XXIII was second in the Division III girls swimming and diving team standings, finishing just behind St. Thomas Episcopal. The Lady Lions scored 61 points to beat out third-place Colleyville Covenant Christian (53).

Freshman Courtney Connelly led the way, winning silver medals in two relays and gold medals in two individual events — both of which she set Division III state records in.

Connelly won the 50 free in 24.78 seconds, breaking the old mark of 25.69 set by Dallas Cambridge’s Jennifer Penley in 2003.

She also set a new mark in the 100 breast en route to gold, finishing in 1:06.64. The previous best of 1:11.09 was set by Kingwood Northeast Christian’s Jennifer Kornfield in 2002.

Connelly teamed with junior Misty Pabalan and freshmen Gabi Duhon and Isabel McCormick to finish second in the 200 medley relay (2:05.34) and 400 free relay (4:12.64).

The Lions came in fourth among Division III boys teams with 44.5 points. Junior Tom Dante won a bronze medal in the 100 free (57.17).

Outstanding State Meet!

The girls squad (2009-9th) improved to RUNNER-UP 2nd place, with excellent individual performances from:

C Connelly (50 free champion and STATE RECORD, and 100 breaststroke champion and STATE RECORD, as well as being personal bests -PB-, and school records in both events)

I McCormick (100 free, 4th place, PB)

M Pabalan (100 back, 7th place, PB)

G Duhon (100 fly, 5th place, PB; 500 free, 5th place, PB)

200 medley relay (2nd place, school record)
400 free relay (2nd place, school record).


Much improved from last year, the boys (2009-6th) finished 4th with super efforts from:

T Dante (100 free, 3rd place, PB; 200 free, 4th place)

M DeBolt (200 IM, 8th place)

D Lese (100 fly, 5th place, PB in prelims; 200 IM, 4th place, PB)

S Maclam (100 free, 8th place, PB) in individual events

Relay swims from these four young men along with B Hermes, B Bucey, and P Dante:

200 medley relay (5th place, school record)
200 free relay(5th place, school record in prelims)
400 free relay (6th place).

Thanks also to parents who have not only volunteered (or were drafted) to time at meets, but also special thanks for year-long support from Moms Magaldi, Hodges, and Duhon, Pops DeBolt, and everyone else who has helped make this maybe the most memorable season so far!

Each School is asked to provide at least (1) timer, if you have officials they will be welcome as well.

They must check in at the front desk and get a wrist band for free admission.

SPECTATORS: Ticket will be available at the entrance for Timed-Finals. There is grandstand seating for 1,100 spectators. Participants will not be allowed in the grandstands!

Students will be excused at the beginning of lunch period. We will drive in the school bus and one parent vehicle to a local restaurant for lunch, then proceed to the pool. After the meet, we will stop for dinner on the way home. I will email meal stop and cost info to each family. If you don't receive it, email me (means I don't have a correct current email).

Reminder about Practice

Starting today, our REGULAR practice pool is Seven Lakes HS.

Practice time remains the same, 615-745pm in the water. Please arrive by 600pm.

If you have transportation problems, please resolve them ASAP or let me know BEFORE time is too short for you to make practice. Missing practice means you may be scratched from the meet.

The HAPPI Meet entries are ready and you can look them over at practice today. We have until 3pm Tuesday to make corrections. I will email everyone a copy. If you don't receive an email copy, then I probably do not have a working email for you. Please email or text me IMMEDIATELY with your correct/preferred email.

I am going by PJ23 to confirm travel arrangements for the HAPPI Meet today, will email you details when complete.

We will discuss Region and State details tonight. Club swimmers will be emailed info if they are not at Monday's practice.

Reminder about Friday Practice

Friday January 8

We are at our NEW, REGULAR pool starting today. Time is same, 615-745pm.

This is our -4th- pool in 4 yrs, lol! Cinco, Katy, Morton Ranch, now SEVEN LAKES.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had our own pool ON CAMPUS?

In case you forgot, Here is a link to a map showing how to get to SLHS from PJ23. The purple line stops right in front of the pool entrance doors.

POOL CHANGE FOR THURSDAY JAN 7

Due to a swim meet at Seven Lakes tonight, regular practice will be held at Katy HS, 615-745pm.

Hope the weather allows us to swim, and that I will see you there.

If there is a change in this due to the weather (i.e., if KISD shuts things down), I will post here.

I am also emailing this post to ALL PJ23 addresses. Please share with your teammates, and don't use weather as an excuse for missing if at all possible.

We have a meet (HAPPI) in Conroe on Jan 15, Region in San Antonio Jan 22-23, City Champs (if held) Jan 30, and STATE on Feb 5-6 in Conroe.

WE NEED TO GET BACK IN THE WATER AND STAY THERE!!!
